I implore you dear reader, to think back to Valentines day 2012. Do you remember anything monumental happening on that day? Probably not. Let me fill you in on a little known fact in music history, 2-14,2012 is the day that City of the Weak's Face Book page appeared. We see a beautiful spunky blond in the first photos on the band page, and are introduced to our heroine Stef, w/ an F, lead singer for this brand spanking new band. There are band photo's and teaser video's for the first few months, then something magical happened on April 5th, 2012, a Soundcloud link appears to the gritty, wonderfully raw tine, White Fire Alarm.
Skip to the present day, 2015. Here we find lead vocalist, Stef with and F, still looking fab as she did in 2012, surrounded by different band mates. Their current musical offering "Just Another Eulogy", shows how Stef, with and F, has matured vocally. The song itself, although still gritty like 2012 City of the Weak, shows signs of a more diverse songwriting team. Stef attributes this to finding the right group of musicians. She also explains that they get together and write new music the good old fashioned way, by getting together and jamming. (She mentioned something about throwing things and screaming at each other) and to me, it doesn’t matter how they do it, because whatever they are doing seems to be working. The band members speak of a large range of musical influences including Metallica, Pantera and Lincoln Park. Their current music reflects these music heavy hitters, with a twist of nu metal, and a sprinkle of punk.
The band, which was started by Stef when she moved to Minneapolis Minnesota about 4 years ago, has come a long way since their first gig at Mc Nally Music School, where Stef was a student. Stef still fondly remembers that first gig, that occurred during an open mic night, stating" We did like one or two songs, we sucked so hard". City of the Weak are way past the days of open mic nights, playing with huge national acts like Butcher babies, ADD, Motograter and a handful of other killer metal bands coming up on September 19th at Slang Metalfest.
